![]() ![]() ![]() Now that we have exhausted the easy "chemical" solution, let's look at possible Arduino based solutions.īefore adding the "Korean hot sauce" epistle, I was looking for something to fill a little "lock-down" time. After a couple of tries you should be able to identify a good balance between feeding the birds with lightly spiced feed and keeping the squirrels at bay. What that means is the you need to arrive at a point where the birds learn to eat around the paste and bob for the mealy. But that spoonfull proved to be a bit much for the mealy worms feed. The squirrels were immediately impressed. I would recommend using a lot and then tapper back to a minimal amount. You will need to "learn" about how to mix an effective "shot" of this sauce. The "heat" seems to arise from moisture or water. The bottles come in 500mG size and have typically last an entire bird season. After using the sauce "wash your hands" thoroughly. I learned early about the door knobs and lips. Be careful with door knobs until you have washed your hands. I also use a "dry" paper towel to wipe everything clean. I use a plastic spoon that I can discard when need be. But it will generate a "flame experience" it it touches lips. It was designed to enhance the human dining experience. But then they are gone.īe very careful with this "chemical". They paw at the "sauced mealy worm" feeder. But they learn about the smell and associate it with the "burning flame sensation". ![]() The birds do not seem to have noticed a difference.īut the squirrels seem to have passed the word around their community about the "killer" sauce. I am now into my third season with the Capsaicin Sauce. This stuff is not only legal, but it really works. His instructions were clear "be careful". He took me to the shelf were he showed me Capsaicn Sauce by .kr. I politely asked whatever they might suggest as being the "hottest" sauce they sold.īottom-line the manager had a good laugh, smiled, and nodded his head. I apologized for any possible "insult" and explained I would like help with my experiment. They also seemed to work for a while.īut eventually, I wandered into a Korean grocery store. As an experiment, I tried various "common" hot sauces available here. But that suggested that I was on the correct path. But eventually, the squirrels' seem to have grown use to the added flavor. The $10 bottle of "sauce" did work for a while. Apparently, like most mammals squirrels have taste buds. The local bird store owner suggested a $10 bottle of "sauce". While we’re missing the normal Ninja Warrior action this time of year, we appreciate the Ninja squirrels doing what they can to fill in! Would anyone like to see a Ninja Catapult on ANW 12? It might be something to contemplate.I attempted to take the same pathway to address the local squirrels intrusion on my bird feeder. *Climbing abilities that make us wonder how fast they’d zip up the 75 foot Mount Midoriyama rope climb.*Agility & Body Awareness taken straight out of a Ninja Warrior playbook.*Tenacity & persistence that reminded us of Quest O’Neal battling through the Bouncing Spider.*Grip strength that rivals Geoff Britten, even toe grip strength – no Zantes needed!.You might even decide that those pesky squirrels are worthy of a few of your seeds too – or maybe you’ll decide that they need a bigger challenge! If you’ve ever battled with a squirrel over a birdfeeder, you are most definitely going to want to watch this entire video. We also learned a LOT about squirrel aerodynamics in the process. Mark takes plenty of time to explain how his squirrel catapults are safe, which we appreciated. ![]()
